Every Made in England boot and shoe we sell is manufactured in Northamptonshire — a county with a shoemaking heritage dating back to the 13th century. At its peak, over 150,000 people worked in the Northamptonshire footwear trade. The factories that survived produce some of the finest Goodyear welted footwear in the world, and BritBoot stocks them all.
Our Made in England range spans four manufacturers: Solovair (NPS factory, Wollaston, since 1881), George Cox (Castle Works, Wellingborough, since 1906), Loake (Wood Street factory, Kettering, since 1880), and Dr Martens Made in England (Cobbs Lane factory, Wollaston, since 1960). Each uses Goodyear welt construction — a method where a welt strip is chain-stitched to the upper and insole, creating a boot or shoe that can be resoled and worn for decades.
